How to Save a Password in Chrome

It can happen that Chrome doesn’t prompt you to save your password. Don’t panic! You didn’t break the application, it just needs some nudging, or you can opt to save your info manually.

Why does Chrome not automatically ask to save my password?

If you’re working on a new device, whether on a PC or Mac, the process is the same. You’ll need to ensure that your settings are allowing Chrome to save passwords. Also, keep in mind that when you clear your caches, it could reset to default, and you have to store it again.

Steps to save a password in Chrome

  • Click on the ‘Menu’ button in the right corner
  • Select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu.
  • In the ‘People’ section, click on ‘Passwords.’
  • Enable the ‘Offer to save passwords’ feature.

If the setting is already enabled when you get there, try to restart your device. You can also save payment info and passwords manually.

How to save passwords manually if Chrome doesn’t prompt you

It’s very quick to save your password manually following these three steps.

  • Open Chrome 
  • Create and save your password and enter all your information
  • Click the ‘Password Save’ icon on the right side of the address bar

If you’re on your phone and it doesn’t show the ‘Password Save’ icon, you can delete your passwords and sign on again.
